Modern Survival Skills Course Overview
Age Limit: 9 years or older
Duration: 3 days, 2 nights (Friday morning to Sunday morning)
• Each participant will be required to sign a waiver upon arrival at the school property.
• Porta-pots and fresh drinking water will be available on-site.
• Bring any foods, snacks, or medications you’ll need for the weekend.
Meeting Location
The meeting point is at the address below. Please arrive by 9:00 AM Friday morning (we recommend arriving 10 minutes early).
Once the instructors meet you at this location, you will follow them to the school property.

Course Objectives
This class is designed to teach the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to survive a short-term, 72-hour survival scenario. Key topics include:
• Fire Making
• Shelter Building
• Locating and Disinfecting Water
• Navigation
• Knots
• Signaling
• First Aid
• And more
Each participant will be paired with a partner and expected to complete tasks as a team and individually. Instructors will demonstrate and discuss each task before participants attempt it.
What to Expect During the Course
• Dealing with the elements: Be prepared for cold, rain, snow, heat, and humidity.
• Material collection: Gather necessary items directly from the landscape.
• Hiking: 1–2-mile hikes over uneven terrain.
• Timed events and navigation courses: Participate in timed exercises and orienteering challenges.
Saturday Night: Students will sleep in the woods using only the required gear list or items specified by the instructors.
Friday Night: You may leave the school property to get food, supplies, or stay in a hotel.
Required Equipment List
Knives:
- fixed blade knife
- Swiss Army knife
Fire Tools:
- ferro rod
- Bic lighter
- small 1-inch roll of duct tape
- fire starters (ie. Wetfire, cotton balls with Vaseline, etc.)
Cordage:
- 150 feet of 550 paracord
- 50 feet of No 36 bank line
Lighting:
- headlamp with spare batteries
Navigation:
• Compass with pace beads (recommended brands: Suunto or Silva)
Shelter Items:
- resusable emergency blanket
- military style poncho
- six plastic tent stakes
- five 3 to 6 mil 55 gallon drum liners (contractor bags)
For Water Procurement:
- old coffee can
- three 12oz pop cans
- wire coat hanger
- pack of nylons
- half dozen plastic water bottles, various sizes
- three gallon size zip lock and three quart size zip lock bags
- medium pack of zip ties
- pack of un lubricated condoms
- water purification tabs
For Search and Rescue
- signal mirror
- two rolls orange or pink flagging tape
- whistle
- machete/hatchet
Other Essentials:
• Large bandanna or shemagh
• Canteen and cup set (at least one should be single-walled stainless steel)
• Notebook and pens/pencils
• Small sleeping bag, wool blanket, or poncho liner
Any food or snacks you’ll need for the weekend
Any medications you take!
Additional Notes
• Friday Night Camping Option: Students may camp on-site Friday night with regular camping equipment (e.g., tarp, tent, hammock). Camps must be packed up Saturday morning before the next evolution of training begins.
• Weather Preparedness: Dress appropriately for the elements and bring extra clothing as needed.
Refund available up to 7 days before your class date, any closer to that no refunds. Refunds will have a processing fee deducted.
